When going into a Farrelly Brothers comedy, you can expect some hefty gross-out humor. In the case of The Heartbreak Kid, it delivers in that sense. Unfortunately, it leaves a lot to be desired elsewhere, and if it’s not being disgusting, it’s not being entertaining.

Conjoined twins. Loveable losers. Borderline mentally handicapped people. Schizophrenics. Nothing is off limits to the Farrelly Brothers, and the latter was the subject of their first entry of the new millennium, Me, Myself & Irene. Not only is a spectacular way to start, it might be their best work behind There’s Something About Mary.

Starting your career with Dumb & Dumber sets an awfully high standard. Amazingly, the Farrelly Brothers have managed to keep their career going with some classic comedies, even if they never conquered the brilliance of Dumber.
