With a bright and colorful demeanor, Igor is a great movie for kids… err, actually, that’s not right. Despite the PG rating, Fox has produced a dark, adult-oriented comedy about the classic Igor character, one in which many of the jokes will go over the heads of young ones. Taking a small children’s book and making a full-length feature out of it probably isn’t a great idea (*Cough*GrinchThatStoleChristmas*cough*), but Horton Hears a Who gets it right. It’s not Pixar, but Bolt carries many of the same charms and laughs the latter premier CG animation studio in the world provides. First-time directors Byron Howard and Chris Williams have created a film with lively characters, enjoyable action, fun plotting, and admittedly the usual round of animated clichés. While the world didn’t need another animal-based, CG animated movie (especially one involving penguins), Surf’s Up’s approach to the genre makes it worth its own. Taking a Christopher Guest-style documentary approach, this look at surfing penguins is a beautifully animated movie with plenty of humor spread throughout.
