John Matrix. Is it even possible to have a cooler ‘80s name than John Matix? The answer is no. That’s just one of the hilarious things that makes Schwarzenegger’s Commando an absolute joy to watch. It’s like watching every ‘80s action movie cliché wrapped up into a single 90-minute package.
Within five minutes, three people have [...]

Here’s what The Condemned wants you to believe: A rogue producer could set up an internet show in which death row inmates are dropped onto an island. They must kill each other, and the last one alive gets to go free. Think Survivor only with less logic and entertainment value.
The set up is so asinine, [...]

Time travel is such a tough subject for movies. No matter how much you think through it, there’s a problem somewhere you didn’t consider and the film instantly loses credibility. Terminator 2, even with some of the usual issues, remains strong with brilliantly designed action sequences and great continuity from the original film.
Even without some [...]

Broken Arrow is simple to describe - it’s a grade-Z action movie with loads of money behind it and a director with an eye for extremes. John Woo followed up 1993’s Hard Target with this fiasco, a brain-dead actioner involving nuclear weapons, an evil John Travolta, and non-star Christian Slater in the hero role. It doesn’t [...]

Underworld was a pure action movie. With the rules set up by the first film, including a brief history and the changes to typical vampire/werewolf lore, Underworld Evolution can settle into summer-movie mode. Never does the film find itself in a dull moment.
That’s a definite problem for those looking for some more history to expand [...]

It’s hard to fathom how a series that loves mindless action could go this far astray. Yet, here’s Transporter 3 in all of its miserable, incomprehensible glory. Fans of the previous two films should be advised to stay some distance from this potentially final film in the series, for whatever exciting fun the predecessors brought [...]

Wrapped around a widespread terrorism plot designed to shut down the entire country, Live Free Or Die Hard (directed by Len Wiseman) is surrounded by action sequences so unbelievable, so ridiculous, you have to question why they bothered crafting a plausible scenario to fuel them. John McClane has dodged bullets and falling debris — yet [...]

Vaulted into international superstardom with the release of the $80 million blockbuster Die Hard, Bruce Willis became a household name practically overnight. Two years later, most of the heroes returned for another round of action and comedy, but something went wrong. Missing the frantic pace of the original (or any respectable acting), Die Hard 2 [...]

Two things made Bruce Willis the star he is today: Moonlighting and “Yippee-ki-yay.” Die Hard spawned the modern action movie, with its style and hard edge. Add in a mix of Hollywood’s best action writers, producer, and director, and you’ve got an American classic.
Merely looking at the credits of this film proves just how flawlessly [...]
